CPF celebrated the Fifth Anniversary of the Beatification to Sainthood of Blessed Franz Jägerstätter, on October 21, 2012. Fr. John McNamee and Johanna Berrigan (House of Grace, Catholic Worker) shared reflections from their time in Linz, Austria.

Dear Catholic Peace Fellowship community, we very much appreciate that you hold a commemoration of Franz Jägerstätter. Two weeks ago I visited Franziska and I told her about the planned celebration at St. Malachy Church. She is lying in bed the last six months. Physically very weak but clearly in mind. She told me to thank you, and I could see the joy on her face about your remembrance. I reminded her that we will celebrate her hundredth birthday in half a year. Suddenly a sadness crossed her face and she said, "Franz left me alone such a long time." Her face became bright again when we both said a prayer, then she blessed me. On 26 October we will celebrate a Mass with our Bishop on a mountain in the Alps for the 5th Anniversary of the beatification. Thank you all and God bless you.
